FIRST TRIMESTER “OLIGOHYDRAMNIOS   “


 

Oligohydramnios at 6 wks GA:

  • No fluid around embryo.
  • It is not true oligohydramnios as the fluid is in the extra-amniotic (chorionic) space.
  • Spontaneous abortion at 7.2 wks.
  • Cause unknown.

 

Normal embryo at 6 wks GA

 


 

First trimester oligohydramnios – 9 wks 4 days:

  • Spontaneous abortion at 12 wks GA
  • Etiology for oligohydramnios not determined

 

Normal amnion and chorion at 9.5 wks

First trimester oligohydramnios at 9 wks 4 days:

  • Increased nuchal translucency 2.3 mm
  • Karyotype = trisomy 21.
